From June, we are changing the rules around travel time priority. The complexes that have priority will change, and we will verify whether the priority is justified:
- From now on travel time priority applies from 1 June to 1 February. Between February and May there is no travel time priority.
- Travel time priority now applies to complexes Vossenveld, Hoogeveldt and Westerhelling (the rooms with shared facilities). Starting from Wednesday 5 June’s listing, the priority will apply on these complexes.
- Travel time priority only applies when you are a first-time student coming to Nijmegen or Arnhem and if you live abroad.
- Have you received a room offer through travel time priority? To accept the room offer, we ask you to also upload your original admission letter (‘Decision about your request for admission’ for Radboud students), together with your proof of enrollment. With your admission letter, we verify whether you are indeed a first-time student coming from abroad.
- In case you won a room through travel time priority, but it turns out that you do not meet the conditions, we will withdraw the offer.
From when will this apply?
At SSH& we always advertise our vacant room from Wednesday to Wednesday. This is why the above rules will go into effect on Wednesday June 5.
Why we do this
We try to allocate rooms and houses as fairly as possible and always look for a balance in the chances of success. We look at numbers, signals from tenants, developments in the housing market, legislation and decide with that information whether we need to adjust our policies.
We think it is important that students who have to travel far have a good chance of finding a room, but that students living closer by should also have a fair chance. The travel time priority will therefore expire between 1 February and 31 May, so that students living less far, or students renting a temporary room, also have a good chance of getting a room. We ask for an admission letter to verify that a room with travel time priority is indeed allocated to a first time student who is currently living abroad.
