If you’re looking for a room, you might have to undergo a flatmate assessment, or get invited for a "viewing". This is true of several SSH& rooms. So we’ll prepare you in advance for what questions you can expect during a flatmate assessment evening.
What do you do in your free time?
You’ll 100% be asked this question. After all, it’s good for everyone to know whether you’ll match up in terms of lifestyle. Do you like doing things alone and sitting in your room, while everyone else likes hanging out together?
Then you won’t be a good fit and living together under one roof will be a challenge. It’s also good for you to know what the rest of the house does in their free time so you can decide for yourself whether it matches your expectations and wishes.
Why do you want to live with us?
There’s a reason why want to come and live in this student house, surely? Think carefully about why you want to live there. Does it happen to be close to where you’re studying? Or are you really invested in going out with these people and experiencing student life together?
Do you think you’re a good fit for our house?
It can be quite tough for your potential flatmates to figure out whether you’ll be a good fit with their group and house. As an individual, you’ll have a better idea of this once you get to know the group and go to see the house, because you know yourself best. So, not all too surprisingly, this is why the question crops up: Do you think you’ll be a good fit for our house?
Answer honestly because if you can’t see yourself living in this house, chances are, you won’t be happy there either. Then it’s better to keep looking for a place that suits you better.
What will you be bringing in terms of furniture and stuff?
Maybe you already live on your own and have quite a bit of furniture you want to bring with you? Or maybe you’ve just got lots of stuff and absolutely have to bring it with you! You should be aware, there’s not always enough room for it. You have to take several people and opinions into account, so if you want to bring furniture for the common rooms, this should always be done in consultation with them. So you may expect this question.
And one final tip from us: bring a nice gift with you so you really leave a good impression.
