Finally, you’ve found a room. Just grab your moving boxes from the attic and let the moving commence! But what else do you actually need to sort out when you move?

What do you need to do if you’re going to move house?

You’re moving house so you’ll be getting a new address. You need to sort out several things for this:

  • Register with your new municipality.
  • Check what new dentist and GP offices you want and register.
  • Report your relocation to the authorities. Think of your school, the bank and online shops you often order from.
  • Take a walk around your new neighbourhood. Check out what kind of people live there and what kinds of shops and cafés there are.
  • The most important thing: Organise a housewarming party for all your friends and family. Then your new house will really be a home!

How do you register with a new municipality?

The municipality has to be kept up to date with your new address. So you have to register your address when you move house. You’ll automatically be deregistered from the municipality you’re registered with. Do this on time, 4 weeks before the move, up to 5 days in advance. You can register online on the website of the municipality where you’re going to live. Do this with your DigiD. If you don’t manage to register your relocation online, you can also make an appointment with your municipality.

What insurance do you need?

You’ve got to arrange your insurance before you can be completely done with moving in. Exciting stuff, arranging all your own insurance policies. What insurance policies should you actually take out when you move in? You can decorate your new room exactly how you want it, but it’s a good idea to insure the stuff in your room! You do this with contents insurance. Say, for example, that a fire breaks out in your place. At least your belongings are insured then. You also need building insurance for your room; this covers damage to the house itself. This insurance is already arranged at SSH& so you don’t have to do anything yourself.

We’re sure you’re now ready to move house!
