Unfortunately, since student rooms aren’t that big, you have to be smart with furnishing your room. Going to Ikea and picking out the nicest furniture you can find is tempting, but bear in mind, you need furniture that suits your student room. There’s lots of furniture available on the market for exactly that.
Cupboards are a must
You want as little stuff lying around as possible, but that’s quite tough in a small room without much storage space. So be sure to make sure there’s lots of cupboard space in your room. Choose tall cupboards so you’ve got more storage space high up. You can store the things you use less often here, like your winter duvet over summer.
Choosing open cupboards is best for saving space, because when a cupboard has opening doors, this takes up space when you open the cupboard. Nowadays, open cupboards in student rooms are a common sight; they’re an ideal way of partitioning your room. This way, you can divide your room and have a ‘bedroom’ and ‘living room’ but still have it looking spacious. And the best part: you can store your stuff there!
Choose a bed with multiple features
You need a bed anyway, but there are many beds that are multifunctional. For example, you can get a bed with drawers underneath, where you can put lots of stuff in! Futons are a good idea too. During the day, you then have a sofa you can watch Netflix or chill out with friends on, and when you go to sleep, you simply transform it into a bed. So they’re ideal for saving space.
A cupboard and a table in one!
It’s not just beds that can be multifunctional, tables can do this too. Look it up: a cupboard and a table in one! These are cupboards that you set up against the wall with fold-out tables. Don’t need the table? Then fold it away and you’ll have much more space in your room. But you still have the extra storage space. You can also use fold-out tables as office and dining tables, which makes them even more useful!
There are lots of clever pieces of furniture you can use to set your room up. Another tip: also take a look at other students’ rooms to see how they’ve decorated their rooms and where their furniture comes from. After all, they’ve had to make the same choices as you.
